Oh, my aching arms

'Tis clear that I'm an out-of-shape wimp. The OC and I spent the evening boxing up 6 bookcases full of Miss B's books and then lugging four of the bookcases and all of the books through her apartment, down a looong staircase, then up and around a corner and into the van. Once we got them home, they had to go up yet another flight of stairs into the attic.

I've been thinking I need to make getting upper body weight-bearing exercise more of a priority, and now I have the aching arms to prove it!

Yeah, you noticed. No season of life lasts forever. Our nest is empty no more now that B is moving back in. Or rather, now that we are moving her back--she's recuperating from surgery so can't do stairs or lifting so the OC and I are doing the actual work. Not to worry, we'll get it out of her later. Heh, heh, heh.

I took the photo of this Monarch butterfly a couple of weeks ago on a nature class field trip to the seaside. We're going again tomorrow...and you can be sure I'll have my camera along!

This is from a week or so ago, though--before almost all the maple leaves fell. I do like the bright colors contrasting with the dark bark. Too bad it doesn't look like that anymore. Sigh.

When New England leaves are peaking, there's no escaping nature's glory

not even in the most mundane of everyday places. I stopped to fill my gas tank and snapped this photo across the parking lot.

Our "waterfront property"

After all the rain we had recently, we now have "waterfront property" and don't even have to pay extra taxes for it. Needless to say, we'll be happy when the developer gets this part of the drainage system done. Of course, so will the people who'll be living right where that giant puddle is now...

This morning's view from the back deck showing fall foliage and the "moonscape" clearing for the new development that's gradually replacing the woods we used to see back there.

Fall Foliage

Maine Fall Foliage

On my way home today, I simply had to pull the car over and take a picture of these beautiful dressed-for-fall trees...so that I'll be able to remember them once the long cold winter sets in!

A Beautiful Sight

We were delighted to glimpse this row of beautiful renewable-energy producing windmills marching across a mountain top in the Willes-Barre, PA area. This photo was taken through the windshield of our moving van--the windmills were visible for only a few moments.
